What is hexadecimal number system?

Hexadecimal number system is base-16 number system. Any number in hexadecimal is represented with symbols 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F. that is a hex number system has digits from 0-9 and letters from A-F or a-f.

This system is widely used for data representation in microprocessors as it becomes simpler as compared to binary numbers.

A hexadecimal number can be converted to binary and octal numbers. Table below show hex equivalent of some decimal numbers.

It is a weighted number system. The weights associated with hexadecimal numbers are ....163, 162, 161, 160, 16-1, 16-2, 16-3, 16-4 ..... and so on.
